The sister ciy of Pompeii was also buried in the ash and mud from Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. 
The city was covered by flood of mud coming from the mountain sides of the Vesuvius which solidified, becoming like tufa stone that created during centuries the best protection against atmospherical events and clandestine excavators.
