The CathedralThe Cathedral of San Pantaleone - located in the main square of Ravello, was built in 1086 and is dedicated to San Pantaleone. His blood which is kept behind the altar, melts by a miracle, every year during the patron saint celebrations (27 July); it also includes a Holy museum, containing precious silver reliquaries, marble slabs, mosaic decorations, the elegant bust of Sigilgaita Rufolo and the reliquary-bust of Saint Barbara.
The façade has three ancient marble portals: the central one is closed by the famous bronze door created in 1179 by Barisano da Trani and composed of 54 panels, where he portrayed Passion scenes, and scenes of saints and warriors, one of which grasps a characteristic oriental arch in confirmation of the Byzantinium influence still extended in Italy in that time. | |

The interior with nave, two aisles and three apses is magnificently decorated and has the peculiarity of the floor
being sharply inclined towards the square. The right aisle contains a 14th century sarcophagus, donated by Bishop
Francesco Castaldo, and a precious panel depicting Saint Michael Archangel defeating Satan, a 16th century work by Giovan Angelo d’Amato from Maiori. The central nave contains, on the left, the pulpit of the Epistles, commissioned at the beginning of the 12th century by Bishop Costantino Rogadeo and decorated with two precious mosaics depicting Jonah and the whale. Refined decorations characterise the pulpit of the Gospels, on the right of the central nave, created in 1272 by Nicolò di Bartolomeo from Foggia.
On the right side of the Cathedral rises the 13th century bell-tower.
