The Bay of Jeranto and the Tower of Montalto

A few meters further up the Piazzetta of Nerano, through the turning on the right-hand side called Via Jeranto, you will reach a bay, the heart of the natural Marine Reserve of Punta Campanella.

After about 60 metres ignore the steep path that climbs on the right side (look for a red and white road sign for Track 00 CAI to Monte S. Costanzo – Punta Campanella) and carry on along the main nature trail. Follow the flat path and on the left you will pass the main entrance to the Villa Rosa while on the right you will see a niche carved out of the rock which contains a votive edicule. From this side of the path on the left side overlooking the Baia del Cantone and in meantime up to the small islands of Li Galli and Vetara along the coast that goes towards Positano.

After a 20 to 25 minute walk the path starts to descend through low stone walls that surround well cultivated vegetable gardens and olive groves. Leaving behind you the Baia del Cantone within a short distance you can see in the distance the Bay of Jeranto and the Tower of Montalto up to Punta Campanella and Capri.

You reach a crossroad: on the left there's the Tower of Montalto and on the right a ruined stairway brings you directly to Jeranto Beach. We suggest you take the left-hand side towards the Tower and carry on along a track amongst the olive groves up to the little beach of Jeranto for a swim in the clear, warm waters. From this point to go back to Nerano, you can return the same way you came or choose the path that slowly climbs the ruined stairway and leads to Nerano.
